Fun piece. There is quite good evidence that glucose gives you a brief mental boost–helps memory and attention–and if you’re low on glucose it costs you. In most of these studies you drink glucose directly so it’s absorbed quickly and you get a surge of glucose before your body gets going and brings your blood sugar down to normal. But a few studies have been done with regular breakfast foods (funded by Kelloggs, of course) that show the same thing. So playing on an empty stomach might not only distract you, but also make you less mentally sharp. but whether to eat at the table or to leave for a while–that’s another question.
mmmmmm glucose
